About Us
DU Dance (NI) is Northern Ireland’s only dedicated dance development company. Our artistic and management team has over forty years experience of working within communities all over the world and our activities are recognised for their best practice and creative excellence. Bringing individuals and communities together to seek creative solutions to artistic challenges, triggers a process that demands and develops sophisticated social interaction and encourages personal growth.
Our AIM is to introduce young people to dance and the creative arts and to advocate dance as a tool for facilitating personal and social development.
Our VISION is to advance dance as an art form, build community connections and foster tolerance and respect.
With performance as an integral part of the process, we provide access to innovative contemporary dance workshops and projects across communities which may often have limited or no dance provision, challenging traditional views of the relevance and value of dance.
2026 marked a significant moment in the company’s journey following the stepping down of founding artistic director Mags Byrne to focus on research, project delivery and travel.
DU Dance (NI) now moves forward under the artistic direction of Jack Philp. Building on the legacy of the organisation and working with the team, fellow artists, participants and partners our next chapter will develop ambitious, inclusive programmes that deepen participation, nurture leadership, and strengthen connections to the professional dance landscape.
